AIIMS (November, 2022)

When the servers of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were attacked in a ransomware attack last year, India experienced one of the largest cyberattacks. According to a new survey, the healthcare sector in India was the one that was most frequently attacked, despite a 38% rise in global cyberattacks in 2022 compared to 2021. In November, a ransomware attack that purportedly originated in China was directed at India’s top government healthcare facility. Authorities were concerned that the data of millions of patients, including VIPs like previous prime ministers, ministers, bureaucrats, and judges, had been compromised during the AIIMS attack, but the data had been decrypted, according to the IT authorities who were conducting the investigation.

Indian Domino’s (February 2021)

On the dark web, information about customers who placed more than 180 million Domino’s India orders was for sale. One million consumers who had placed orders on their portal using either mobile devices or computer systems had all of their information exposed, including names, addresses, delivery locations, cell phone numbers, and email addresses. Alon Gal, the CTO of the cyber intelligence company Hudson Rock, disclosed it. He added that someone had requested 10 bitcoin, which costs Rs 4 crore, in exchange for 13 gigabytes of data that contained information on 180 million pizza orders and the credit card information for 1 million people.

Data Breach at SBI (January 2019)

Customers can receive information about their most recent transactions and account balance via text texts thanks to SBI Quick, a free service. The largest bank in the nation, State Bank of India, left one of its servers unencrypted, exposing the data of its 422 million clients, according to an unnamed security researcher. The Mumbai-based server held partial bank account numbers, bank balances, and phone numbers of customers of the bank’s SBI Quick service. Around 3 million text messages were sent to the customers as a result of this attack.

Cyberattack against Cosmos Bank in Pune (August 2018)

In 2018, Cosmos Bank in Pune was the target of a cyberattack in India. When hackers stole Rs. 94.42 crores from Pune’s Cosmos Cooperative Bank Ltd., the daring attack rocked India’s entire banking industry. The bank’s ATM server was breached by hackers, who stole the information of several visa and rupee debit card holders. Hacker groups from about 28 different nations instantly withdrew the money after being told, while money was erased. 18 people have been detained by the police thus far in connection with this case. Nine suspects were named in a 1,700-page chargesheet that was submitted in December 2018 by the special investigation team (SIT) looking into the matter. Then, nine additional defendants were named in two extra chargesheets.
